Music is very much a comfort in this world. Whether it's your go-to sad playlist when you need a good cry, the upbeat tunes that make cleaning feel like an exclusive dance party, or the softer music that helps you keep focused during the work day, music is always there for you!
How Music Can Support Your Mental Wellbeing
1. It helps to regulate your emotions
Music can match your mood, or even help to shift it. For example, say you're feeling low, a favourite upbeat song can help you feel more energised and ready to carry on with your task or day. On days when I am feeling particularly anxious, I like to put on one of my calm music playlists - this helps to slow my racing thoughts and feel more present.
2. It helps you feel less alone
There's a reason heartbreak songs exist! They remind us that someone out there understands what you're feeling, which can help you feel less isolated with what you are currently experiencing.
3. It supports mindfulness
When you slow down to really listen to the music, feeling the beat, taking in the lyrics, or just letting your mind wander with the music, it's a great way to bring yourself into the present moment - whatever that may be.
4. It inspires movement
Dancing! Even if it's just a little sway while making tea, the movement releases endorphins and helps to release built-up stress in your body.
